6.17 - Deal with it or Disengage: A Pokemon Recommendation

Hello, hello! Happy Isle of Armor day! As of today, Pokemon trainers are a little over half a year into their Galar journey. Pokemon Sword and Shield debuted on November 15, and - despite all the hubbub about it - dominated the opening weekend sales of the year with six million copies sold worldwide and two million copies sold within the first few days. Even with all the positive reviews, this generation seems to still be a sore spot for some.

It has gotten to the point where you can't really go towards an official Pokemon post without hearing someone whine about it. We even had a fan bother Masuda on his birthday, for goodness sake! It's quite a hot topic.

If you came to see if I feel the same as these contentious fans, then prepare to be disappointed. I fell in love with Galar, and it rekindled my want to play Pokemon again. This isn't to say I don't have my own personal critiques on the game, but some of them are fairly minor and don't impact my enjoyment in any sense. There is one big one, but I don't think I'll get into it too much today because it's revolves around  the game industry as a whole.

So, as much as I want to talk about how much I love this game: this isn't the piece for me to do it in. Because some of my friends are buying Nintendo Switches and are now in the market for games, I felt like I should address the big question I receive a lot:

"I haven't bought Pokemon Sword/Shield, yet. Should I do it?"

In short: yes, you should! If you're looking for reasons as to why, you might wanna continue reading!

3.16 - Social Media Hiatus

Before we get started, I just want readers to know that this post isn't really a professional post. It's not my work persona, it's not my customer service persona, it's me. Straight up me.

With that being said, hi. I'm taking 2 weeks off of social media. Here's why.
I'm skipping formalities and jumping right in: I'm going to stop all social media, messaging, and blogging for about two weeks.

In the last week, with the world getting pretty scary in the light of the coronavirus, I haven't been able to do work. I haven't been able to focus. I've been scared everyday, and the more my friends talk about it the more my anxiety is through the roof.

I have had two severe meltdowns in the past two days. Last week was a major depressive episode. I am currently teetering between the two.

What does this mean for content? I'm still working on stuff. I am whittling away on projects, and they're going mostly okay. I haven't been able to do as much as I'd like because of how I've felt. It sucks.

Ideally I would like to finish everything I've started in March, in March, but I don't know how far my mental health will take me. Any completed and posted projects, however, will be updated and announced. Other than that, not so much.

What does this mean for my friends? I will not be on Mumble. My DMs are open. My phone is on. However, please note that if you do try to talk to me about the virus or current political atmosphere, I will outright ignore you (unless, of course, there is an emergency).

Though, if you would like to play games together I will be around!! Let's have fun!!

Please take care of yourselves, and do as you need to do. Stay home if you're sick. Wash your hands. Keep yourself clean. I'll be doing all that and more.

Thank you for your time.

See you in April.

3.10 - Happy Granblue Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!! It's been six years since Gran took off on his journey search for the island of the Astrals, while I've been carving my own path for three. I've adored this game ever since one of my closest friends got me hooked on it, and it has such a wide cast of characters that there is someone that everyone can love.

Every player has their own reasons for joining the game, so why not share mine? Today’s blog will be talking about how I fell for the game, as well as the difficulties I’ve faced in doing so.
Don’t worry, it’s a happy ending.

3.5 - The Bug Boys vs Professor Blake Blackheart (Booktasters Review)

Hi everyone, Robyn here!

Today's blog post is about Stewart Hoffman's The Bug Boys vs Professor Blake Blackheart! This was another book that I had the pleasure and honor of reading through Booktasters and the author himself. I was super stoked to get through this one!

It's been a long time coming for me to actually sit down and read, and I apologize for the long wait!!

This post also marks the first time I'm experimenting with Goodreads' auto-blog post function, so everything will be below the cut! The final score of the book was 5/5, and I implore you to purchase the book here if you're interested!

Without further ado, let's get started!

2.27 - Pokemon Day is My Day of Reflection

I don’t quite remember where my hyperfixation on Pokemon began. One moment my tiny baby self was apathetic about a kid and his weird rat, and the next moment I screamed at the TV because he was about to give up his best friend.

I remember crying because I lost my own fat and round Pikachu going to see Mewtwo Strikes Back in theatres, and I remember hugging a life-sized Charmander my mom bought me a long time ago. I even remember stealing someone’s Pokemon book after they bought it because they said that girls couldn’t get into Pokemon.

...I might still have it because I never owned up to it.

Unlike most instances where young boys would actually kill my (sensitive) obsession with whatever I liked at the time, Pokemon was the one flame that was fueled further with the bullying. I would come to school with collected cards, or keep a Vulpix I adored with me. I would even host mock battles in my room with my other plushies, where the Pokemon would always reign superior because bunnies can’t do anything.

Though, the one thing that I do remember very vividly was my focus on FireRed and LeafGreen.

2.11 - NEW PIECES: "Anxiety Angel" & "No Matter What"

Hi everyone, Robyn here!

I've released two pieces that were originally slated for January - but required either more time to edit or additional editing overall.

I bring "Anxiety Angel," which is a piece about my fallen angel OC killing for promotion... except she actually doesn't kill and is very nervous to do so.

I also have posted "No Matter What," which is a fanfic surrounding a friend and I's OCs and another practice attempt at characterization.

I hope you enjoy them, and - if it's not too much trouble - leave kudos at the end if you did!

Until the next,
This is Robyn, signing out!
